“If Issa Dee can manage apartments, surely *eye* can manage an Airbnb”, says the award-winning actress, creator and star of the hit HBO Show Insecure.
Issa Rae is a business woman and it's time the world acknowledges her power on this front. Issa Rae is not only making her mark in television, film or productions but also in business as an entrepreneur. In a Forbes article, she shared that she is serving as co-owner of the black-owned and operated Hilltop Coffee shop of her hometown, Inglewood, South LA. In all of her acts, her love for South LA is paramount. Just like Issa Dee, the Insecure character, Issa Rae is technically a real life culture curator.
To add to her list of entrepreneurial endeavors, Issa Rae announced today over Twitter her new Airbnb spot that will open up to guests on February 8th. The one bedroom, one bed and bath Airbnb is an entire residential home that accommodates two guests, hosted by Issa Ra.
Issa Rae says,
I’m inviting guests to spend a weekend in my hometown to experience the culture, businesses and communities that influence my storytelling on screen. I can’t wait to show guests all the things that make Black LA so special firsthand.
The Airbnb booking opens at 10 a.m. PT on Tuesday, February 8 for one stay on February 12-14 for $56 a night. Guests are responsible for their own travel to and from Los Angeles. The Airbnb listing says, guests will have the opportunity to explore some of Issa’s favorite landmarks in neighborhoods like Leimert Park, View Park, Inglewood and Baldwin Hills and experience their own “me season” during their weekend at her South LA pad. Plus, she’s curated plenty of activities for their stay, to see LA through Issa’s lens.
The Airbnb stay also includes: A virtual chat with Issa at check-in, a catered “Game Day” dinner for two, courtesy of Worldwide Tacos, Panoramic views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Hills from the outdoor lounge. A stylish mid-century View Park pad decked out with artwork by local Black artists such as Maya Iman, Vakseen, and Domonique Brown. Getting to know Issa’s favorite local spots via my personal guidebook, including Eso Won Books, My 2 Cents, Supervsn Studios, Gorilla Rx Wellness, Swift Cafe, ALL CHILL and Southern Girl Desserts and special touches in the home - like a Hilltop Coffee nook. Pampering yourself with Sienna Naturals hair care (that you can take home!) for a little Self Care Sunday, any day. Wine-ing down after a day of exploring South LA. Guests are encouraged to stop by some of the iconic landmarks they might recognize from their favorite Insecure episodes. Basking in the LA winter and relaxing by the pool - complete with chaise lounges and canopies. Only the best for my guests, Issa says.
Here’s a Forbes quote from Issa about Black women in entrepreneurship:
“I’ve learned that black women have been running things for a while. We don’t necessarily get the credit, but there are a lot of black female entrepreneurs. I’m proud to be one of them, and I think it’s important to showcase that. We do a lot and juggle a lot always, and which is expected of us, but it’s also important to realize that this is an actual skill. We are good at this, we are doing it very well and have been for years.”
