2024 MOSWC: Nigeria Aim to Break 15-year Jinx in US

Six Nigerian students seek to break a 15-year jinx and see their dreams come true at Disneyland.

Six Nigerian students are gearing up to break a 15-year jinx and fulfill their dreams at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) in Disneyland, Anaheim, California, USA. The competition, which tests students’ abilities in using Microsoft Office tools, is scheduled to take place from July 28 to July 31.

Progressing from the Zenith Bank-sponsored Microsoft Office Specialist Nigeria, ReadManna Empowerment Initiative (REI) has unveiled a team of six students, to be accompanied by two dedicated teachers, that would be representing Nigeria in Disneyland, Anaheim, California, United States. 

Olamiposi Ajisafe of Faith Academy, Gowon Estate, Lagos (Excel 2019), with a perfect score of 1,000/1,000 achieved in a remarkable 13 minutes and 15 seconds. Rume Gabari of Grace High School, Gbagada, Lagos (Word 2019), who also scored a flawless 1,000/1,000 in 15 minutes and 29 seconds. Daniel Uzugbo of Faith Academy, Ota, Ogun State (PowerPoint 2019), with a perfect 1,000/1,000 score completed in an impressive 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Bolurinwa Fabuyi of City of Knowledge Academy, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State (Excel Office365), who scored an outstanding 980/1,000 in 13 minutes and 8 seconds. Oluwadamisola Arigbabu of Faith Academy, Ogun State (Word Office365), with a perfect 1,000/1,000 score achieved in 21 minutes and 30 seconds.

Out of 126 participants, the six students emerged from the National Competition held in Abuja, Gbagada (Lagos), Ikorodu(Lagos), Ijebu-Ode, and Uyo. 

If Nigeria clinches first place this time, the students will receive $8,000 (USD) along with a trophy, medal of achievement, and certificate. The Second Place winner receives $4,000 (USD) along with a medal of achievement and certificate. The Third Place Winner receives $2,000 (USD) along with a medal of achievement and certificate.

The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship for Students (MOSWC) is an annual global competition involving over 150 countries. It tests students’ proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel® and PowerPoint® across different academic fields through assessments, aiming to promote technological excellence and digital skills among the younger generation.
