Stevie Wonder Honored with Ghanaian Citizenship

The legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder was honored Ghanaian citizenship in a ceremony presided over by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Wonder takes the Oath of Allegiance and receives a certificate of Ghanaian citizenship. Wonder returned to Ghana to celebrates his 74th birthday with his family on May 13.

“I guess it’s just the lineage I felt Ghana, I felt my civilisation was there and I was there where it began. So, I thank all of you so very much. I always say this is the beginning, [the best part of the rest of my life got to do God’s promised],” he stated.

In a revealing conversation with Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder disclosed his intentions to relocate permanently to Ghana around late 2020 or early 2021. At the age of 70, the recipient of 25 Grammy Awards expressed his aspiration to protect his future generations from the racial injustices prevalent in the United States, highlighting his desire to reside in a community where respect and dignity are fundamental.
