On Saturday, July 8th, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy (Damini Ogulu) achieved a remarkable feat by selling out the 41,800-seat Citi Field Stadium in Queens, New York City. This accomplishment solidified his position as a trailblazing artist, as he became the first African artist to ever sell out a US stadium, as reported by Rolling Stone.

After headlining at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2022, Burna Boy, a Grammy award winner, once again captivated American audiences with his vocal talents. Transforming the New York Mets baseball stadium into the enchanting “Damini Fairground,” the event showcased mesmerizing carousels and lion animations on the stadium’s colossal screens.

The highly anticipated performance, scheduled for 7 PM, unfolded as both a visual and musical masterpiece. The evening was full of dynamic dance routines, captivating drumbeats, and a host of prominent guests.

The festivities commenced with a captivating performance by Burna Boy’s sister, Nissi Ogulu, who delighted the packed crowd with her impressive dance moves and soulful singing. British rapper Dave also took the stage to perform the hit song “Location,” a collaborative effort with Burna Boy released in 2019.

However, the notable guests were not confined solely to the stage. Burna Boy shared a special moment with his mother, Bose Ogulu, who was there to support both of her creative children.

Additionally, rap legend Busta Rhymes and acclaimed singer SZA graced the show, joining the chorus of fans singing along to Burna Boy’s chart-topping hits like “Last Last” and “Ye.”

Throughout the electrifying performance, Burna Boy traversed the stage in his signature Cuban link chains, as vibrant red lights bathed the stadium, adding to the immersive experience.

This memorable show marked a pivotal moment in Burna Boy’s ongoing “Love, Damini” Stadium Tour, which has taken him across the globe, including London and various countries. He showcased songs from his 2022 album, “Love, Damini,” along with timeless classics such as “African Giant.” To the delight of his fans, Burna Boy even performed an unreleased single entitled “Big 7.”

The sold-out performance at Citi Field Stadium represents the culmination of years of relentless dedication and hard work by the artist. Burna Boy’s musical journey reached a significant milestone in 2019 when he performed at New York’s renowned Apollo Theatre, an accomplishment that propelled him forward on his path to global success.
