Louis Vuitton has announced that producer and grammy award winning singer Pharrell Williams will be assuming the role of their creative director, a job spot that has been vacant since 2021. The job has been open since the previous director; the late Virgil Abloh passed away on November 28th of 2021 after a silent battle with Cancer. Pharrell Williams has work with menswear company in the past as he has made different designs through collaborations with them between 2004 and 2008, one of his many designs being his 1.1 millionaire sunglasses. Word of Pharrell’s hiring to creative director came from a news release hosted by Louis Vuitton Tuesday morning.

The release stated: “The way in which (Pharrell)breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit and entrepreneurship,”.

Pharrell Williams took to Instagram to share his news with the world by posing himself wrapped in a Louis Vuitton blanket.

While Pharrell Williams music career has certainly made him famous, with megahits such as his songs “Happy” and “Blurred Lines”, he has always had an interest in Fashion Collaborations. He’s work with other major brands such as Moncler, Chanel, and even Adidas.

Williams being the new creative director has taken the torch from Abloh, who was actually the first black designer for Louis Vuitton Menswear to be their creative director. Williams was close friends with the late designer. When Abloh passed away in 2021, Williams had taken to twitter, saying how Abloh was a kind and generous person who was creative genius.

Williams has founded previous apparel works prior to Lous Vuitton such as Billionaire Boys club and the skateboarding shoe brand known as Ice Cream back in 2005.

Williams is now only the 2nd black designer to ever be given the Creative Director position. Louis Vuitton’s CEO Pietro Becarii wrote and stated: “I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards anew and very exciting chapter.”
